CIM-CONFIGURATION A This system must refer to a method of manufacturing in which the entire production process is controlled by computer and it must rely on closed-loop control processes based on real-time input from sensors.
Students will be able to study the theory and work with the system to get a sound knowledge of the computer integrated manufacturing, which allows for transversal applications in the following didactic areas: Automation, Pneumatics, Mechatronics, Electronics, Process Control, etc.

This trainer must be composed of 3 units, each one simulating a single basic application that is commonly used in the industry. Each unit shall be implemented with real electronics, mechanics and pneumatics components. The basic modules will be the following:
Conveyor unit: materials must be transferred in a linear motion by means of the belt conveyor driven by geared DC motors; this unit shall move materials/objects from one end to the other. Sensors will be used to sense the parts material and presence. This will be a miniature model of a real industrial conveyor system.  This unit shall have the next minimum characteristics:

Material detection sensors: diffuse reflection optoelectronic switch and inductive proximity switch

Linear transfer unit: this module shall consist in an electro-pneumatic controlled linear actuator. Proximity switches must be fixed to sense the retracted and extended position of the transfer unit. This unit must transfer materials from the conveyor to the linear Pick and Place Unit with the help of a pneumatically operated rodless double acting cylinder.
This unit shall have the next minimum characteristics:

Cylinder: Pneumatic rod less Cylinder (20mm dia & Stroke length 200mm)
Travel length: 200 mm
Operating Pressure: 6 Bar

Two proximity sensors: voltage 24 VDC
Pick and place unit: this module shall transfer the material from the Linear Transfer Unit end to the next Unit with the help of vertical arm, horizontal arm and angular gripper. The Pick and Place Unit must be a totally electro-pneumatic control system. There shall be three main parts in this unit: 1. Vertical arm (vertical double acting cylinder) 2. Horizontal arm (horizontal double acting cylinder) and 3. Angular gripper (double acting angular gripper for holding work pieces).
Magnetic switches are fixed to sense the retracted and extended position of the actuator.
This unit shall have the next minimum characteristics:
Vertical travel:     60 mm
Horizontal travel: 150mm
Load Capacity:     0.5Kg
Cylinders: One Vertical double acting cylinder (two magnetic sensors at the retracted and extended position of the cylinder, coil voltage 24 V)
One Horizontal double acting cylinder (two magnetic sensors at the retracted and extended position of the cylinder, coil voltage 24V)
Gripper:  Angular gripper
Operating pressure: 6 bars

Software: The system must include the software for programming the PLC.
PLC: PLC shall be supplied according to the requirements from customer.
The trainer must be supplied with manual in English language.
