Smoke Generator .

Description of Smoke Generator:

The Integrated Smoke Generator System has been designed to produce smoke filaments of adequate density to enable flow patterns around various objects to be demonstrated. It can be used in tunnels and ducts having flow rate less than about 8m/s (26ft/s). The oil mist is formed by the atomisation of a heated mineral oil in an air stream. The resultant ‘vapour’ being largely a suspension of fine liquid droplets, forms a highly visible ‘smoke’ with contrast characteristics particularly suitable for photography. This unit has been designed specifically for use with Two Dimensional Wind Tunnel.

Experimental Capability of Smoke Generator:

  1. Visualisation of Smoke Filaments
  2. Analysis of flow patterns around an object
  3. Practical learning associated to streamlined flow
  4. Smoke generation process

Specification of Smoke Generator:

Incorporating a 200 ml oil reservoir that is gravity fed to an electrically heated vaporising tube. The vapour, entrained in an air stream provided by a Rena diaphragm pump is then passed to a flexible ‘smoke’ reservoir. Fine control over the generation of smoke is provided by a valve next to the vaporising tube. The contents of the smoke reservoir are discharged through an outlet pipe to the smoke rake provided with the equipment. A throttle clamp enables smoke circuit oscillations to be damped out.
